ACCEPTANCE AND COMMITMENT THERAPY
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (or ACT for short) is a type of therapy that helps individuals with challenging thoughts and emotions. The goal of ACT is to help create ‘psychological flexibility’ so that the individual can tackle current and future struggles. ACT is backed by scientific studies in treating anxiety, depression, stress and trauma . It is a type of therapy that involves actionable activities to do inside and outside session, making it different than traditional talk therapy.
Why may ACT be right for you? Many of the clients I work with like ACT for two reasons. The first is that it gives you tools that you can do outside therapy sessions to help reduce stress and give you more control of your life. The second is that ACT is a strengths based approach. It puts equal focus on what the individual is doing well and wants to expand on vs focusing solely on what they want to change. This can be particularly helpful if you struggle from low self esteem, want to focus on your strengths and discover your direction in life.

Alexandria has been using ACT in her work since 2018 and have seen the wonderful impact it can make. She has received my Level 1 and Level 2 training from the Association of Psychological Therapies and continues to do outside learning on ACT and it implications.
