Anxiety
Anxiety can serve us many purposes - it helps us pick up on danger and predict possible problems to problem solve. The issue comes up when the anxiety goes astray and makes life harder.
Part of the work in therapy is finding out what anxiety spirals come from (fear of others perception, fear of the unknown), and what life experiences have influenced led to these of taking ‘root’. From there, clients can learn how to acknowledge when anxiety comes up, regulating their body, and then make a plan based on the clients values and goals. I also include mindfulness, artistic expressions and journaling exercises to give clients tools to use in between sessions.
One particular area of anxiety specialize in is academic stress. I work with students from elementary school through university, as well as adults re-entering the academic setting. Having attended university out of province and the United States, I understand some of the unique perspectives of studying away from home and returning back.
